41 arrested for organizing online gambling in China

HOHHOT -- Police in North China's Inner Mongolia autonomous region have arrested 41 suspects for organizing cross-border online gambling involving about 120 million yuan ($17 million).

Last year, police in the city of Ulanhot, Xing'an League, found the suspect of a murder case in January had participated in online gambling since 2017 and lost a large sum of money.

The following police investigation showed gambling gangs, based in Chinese provinces including Guangdong, Sichuan, Jiangsu and Fujian, were organizing gambling through online games and setting up online casinos via the social network app WeChat.

The police launched two raids in Guangdong, Fujian and Chongqing, arrested 41 suspects, seized more than 400 electronic devices involved in the case and froze 75 million yuan.

Further investigation into the case is underway.
