The Fourth Plenary Session of the 19th Communist Party of China Central Committee will be held in October in Beijing, a meeting of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee decided on Friday.
Xi Jinping, general secretary of the CPC Central Committee, presided over the meeting.
At the CPC Central Committee's fourth plenary session, the Political Bureau will deliver a work report to the CPC Central Committee. It will study several important issues on upholding and improving the system of socialism with Chinese characteristics as well as promoting the modernization of the national governance system, according to a statement released after the meeting.
Since the founding of the CPC, the Party has led the people to establish and improve the socialist system and develop systems in all areas including the Party's leadership, economy, politics, culture, society, military and foreign affairs, the statement said.
Meeting participants agreed that progress has been made in improving the system of socialism with Chinese characteristics and modernizing the national governance system since the 18th National Congress of the CPC, thus providing a powerful guarantee of political stability, economic development, cultural prosperity, social peace and national unity.
Experience has proved that the system of socialism with Chinese characteristics and the national governance system have great vitality and superiority and are supported by the people, the statement said.
It was added at the meeting that the systems can continuously push forward the country's progress and ensure the realization of the Two Centenary Goals — to build a moderately prosperous society by 2021 and to turn China into a modern socialist country by 2049.
Since the world is now experiencing great changes unseen in a century and China is at a critical period of realizing the great rejuvenation of the nation, efforts must be made to strengthen the study of major issues, stick to reform and innovation, improve the socialist system with Chinese characteristics and promote modernization of the national governance system and capacity, it said.
The meeting also reviewed several documents including a regulation on drafting intra-Party regulations.
The formulation of intra-Party regulations is a major move to strengthen institutional building within the Party in the new era and it reflects the Party's achievements in comprehensively strengthening Party discipline in accordance with regulations, it said.
