BEIJING -- Chinese railway police captured 11,775 fugitives during the summer vacation travel rush that ended Saturday, said the Ministry of Public Security Sunday.

Railway police nationwide dispatched special teams to major railway stations and trains to crack down on theft, robbery and fraud, said the ministry, adding that 3,031 such criminal cases were busted, with 1,171 suspects seized.

Railway police punished more than 29,000 lawbreakers for disturbing social order and public security, such as those who forcibly took others' seats, drunken troublemakers and ticket scalpers, said the ministry.

They also worked closely with local public security organs, armed police stationed at railway stations and passenger transport organs to tighten inspections and beef up security checks.
