Power supply back on in quake-hit area in Sichuan

CHENGDU -- Electricity is back on for more than 24,000 households who suffered temporary power outage due to the 5.4-magnitude earthquake in Southwest China's Sichuan province Sunday, local authorities said.

As of 9 pm Sunday, 4,781 people had been dispatched for rescue work, medical aid, firefighting, order maintenance, power restoration and traffic control to Weiyuan county, Neijiang city.

A total of 4,000 cotton quilts, 220 tents and 200 emergency kits had been allocated to the quake-hit areas by the provincial and municipal emergency management authorities as well as the local Red Cross Society.

The quake jolted Weiyuan at 6:42 am Sunday, and had killed one person and injured 63 others.
