First batch of ICV application demonstration licenses issued

The first batch of intelligent-connected vehicle application demonstration licenses was issued at the World Intelligent Connected Vehicles Conference in Shanghai on Monday, The Paper reported.

SAIC Motor, BMW and Didi Chuxing were China's first three companies to obtain the licenses and could kick off ICV application and explore ICV commercialized operation in Shanghai, the first city in China to issue such licenses.

The application is not limited to pure testing; these vehicles can carry passengers, which means intelligent connected vehicles may enter daily life.

The maximum number of intelligent connected vehicles applying for an application should be 50. More vehicles could be added 6 months later if operation of the first 50 goes well, according to the trial regulation on Shanghai ICV road test and demonstration application management.

The national Intelligent Connected Vehicle (Shanghai) Pilot Zone was established in Shanghai's Jiading district in June 2016, providing testing services for 70 companies.

Roads open for ICV testing were released and China's first batch of car plates for connected car road tests was issued in Shanghai on March 1, 2018.
