China Media Group launches reform

China Media Group (CMG) launched a comprehensive reform of its programs for high-quality development, the Group said on Thursday.

According to CMG, the reform is an important measure to accelerate its integration of multimedia into its programming and to build a world-class media platforms.

The group is also setting itself a test to report National Day in innovative ways.

"The reform will be driven by innovation, and we need to strengthen cultural confidence, improve the quality of content, enhance the level of art, and improve the satisfaction of the public," said Li Ting, member of CMG's editorial board.

This reform involves 19 television channels, 17 sets of domestic broadcasting frequencies, 44 languages of foreign broadcasting, three key news websites and new media platforms, said Wang Xiaozhen, CMG editorial office convenor.

The revision highlights the priority of mobile terminals and prioritizes the reform of the supply of media content to follow its new strategic layout of "5G+4K/8K+AI".

CMG will coordinate resources such as new media, television channels and radio frequencies, and form clusters of high-quality content including news, finance and economics, literature, art and education.

"The function positioning of each platform will be clearer and more professional," Wang said.

"In the overall reform process, more than 200 new programs will be launched, and existing programs will be promoted," Wang added.

Wang said that the reform will rely on new technology and strive to integrate various resources.

CMG will accelerate the production of programs about sports, documentaries, operas and music with 4K resolution, and speed up the production of documentaries with 8K resolution.

China Central Television, China National Radio and China Radio International Online, which together form CMG, will jointly build an "artificial intelligence editorial office", coordinating news websites, mobile TV, internet TV, IPTV and other terminal formats, so as to provide new audio-visual experiences.

CMG's headquarters in the Yangtze River Delta, located in Shanghai's Xuhui district, opened on Wednesday.

It is the first regional headquarter of CMG, and it will gradually incorporate copyright operations, sports programming, translation and the editing of movies and TV plays and creative projects.
