Chinese dairy producer founds major institute

China's leading dairy producer, China Mengniu Dairy Company Limited, on Friday founded the Mengniu Nutrition Institute.

The move was made to increase the company's investment in research and scientific development in dairy products and nutrition.

Mengniu will enhance its collaboration with academics and research institutions to transfer scientific results into high-value products and more efficient services, said Yu Weizu, vice-president of Mengniu's research and development department.

Among Mengniu's strengths are the company's trusted partners.

Mengniu has established a professional nutrition research team with the China-Denmark Milk Technology Cooperation Center, along with the Mengniu Danone Research and Development Center.

Its R&D resource network covers more than 60 scientific research institutions worldwide.

Mengniu and the Inner Mongolia Agricultural University this year established the Lactobacillus Joint Innovation Laboratory, while the Mengniu (Beijing) Research and Development Center was also established and put into operation.

At the World Intestinal Health Day Summit on May 29 this year, the Chinese Nutrition Society and Mengniu established the Healthy China Nutrition Alliance.

Mengniu and the Chinese Nutrition Society last week formally signed this deal during the National Nutrition Science Conference.

The institute aims to establish an open platform for research on early life nutrition, senior nutrition, nutrition for people living with disease, and chronic disease prevention and treatment.
