KUNMING - Police in Southwest China's Yunnan province have caught a person suspected of smuggling frozen beef into China, local police said Saturday.
After receiving a report, police at the China-Vietnam border county of Maguan intercepted a vehicle in Gulinqing township on Sept 17, from which they seized a total of 9.7 tons of frozen beef.
The driver confessed that the frozen meat, with no certificates, was smuggled from Vietnam.
Further investigation is underway.
Meat smuggling has often occurred in Maguan county in recent years, and local police have been stepping up efforts to crack down on such cases.
