Horse poop used to heat Helsinki homes

chinadaily.com.cn | Updated: 2019-10-30 00:58

Manure seems to be the gift that keeps on giving. While it's commonly used as fertilizer to give plants nutrients, in Helsinki, horse manure is used to power electricity and heat homes.

The International Equestrian Federation (FEI) held their World Cup Jumping Show last week in Helsinki. With the help of Fortum Jarvenpaa power plant, they used the horse manure from the equine athletes to power their event as well as homes in Helsinki.
