Differences across Straits should be resolved through equal consultation: Spokesperson

BEIJING -- The correct path to developing cross-Straits relations is to jointly resolve differences through equal consultation, said Ma Xiaoguang, the spokesperson for the State Council Taiwan Affairs Office, at a press conference Wednesday.

There is only one China in the world, the mainland and Taiwan belong to one China, the sovereignty and territorial integrity of China has never been severed and cannot be separated, which is the status quo of the cross-Straits relations, he said.

Responsible political figures in Taiwan should tell the real situations and truth to the young people of the island, said Ma, adding that the development of cross-Straits relations during the past three decades has proved that only on the basis of the 1992 Consensus can cross-Straits relations achieve win-win results.

The Democratic Progressive Party authority and separatists for "Taiwan independence" tampered with school curriculums, aiming to sever the historical and cultural ties across the Strait, which had a negative influence on the young generation on the island, further harmed cross-Straits relations, and is strongly opposed by Taiwan society, he said.
