Police in South China detain 30,000 in crackdowns

Guangdong police detained 21,130 suspects after cracking down on 8,690 cases involving in gambling and prostitution during a special campaign code-named Jufeng 2019 from January to October. [Photo provided to chinadaily.com.cn]

More special campaigns and operations will continue to be launched to fight crime in the coming months, he added.

In Foshan, 20 kilometers from Guangzhou, police in July detained a total of 182 suspects, including three suspected foreign prostitutes, after busting a major cross-border vice gang.

Many bank cards, mobile phones and condoms used for prostitution were seized. The gang was investigated and found to be active in Guangdong for years.
