A total of 51 children and three teachers were sent to the hospital Monday after a man splashed a corrosive chemical liquid in a kindergarten in Kaiyuan, a city in Southwest China's Yunnan province, according to a statement issued by local police on Tuesday.
On Monday afternoon, after cutting a protective wire on an exterior wall, the suspect, a 23-year-old male surnamed Kong, climbed into the kindergarten and sprayed caustic soda on the people there, according to the local government.
After comprehensive medical examinations in the local hospital, two people were found to be seriously injured, but none of the injuries were life threatening.
Local police found the suspect about an hour after receiving a report on the incident. Police said the suspect bought the chemical material on the internet and carried out the attack as revenge on society.
