HARBIN -- A total of 334,000 people in Northeast China's Heilongjiang province have bid farewell to poverty since 2017, according to the provincial poverty alleviation office.

As of July 2019, poverty-stricken residents in the province only accounted for 0.65 percent of its total population.

Over the past two years, 1,678 out of the 1,778 poverty-stricken villages in Heilongjiang have shaken off poverty.

All of the villages have access to convenient traffic, the Internet, and cable TV, as well as clinics and cultural activity venues.

China aims to eradicate absolute poverty by 2020, the target year to finish building a moderately prosperous society in all respects. As the deadline approaches, China has redoubled its efforts to focus on the nation's poorest people in rural areas with precise and targeted measures.
