Over 3 tons of drugs seized in Guangdong since Jan

A total of 3.17 metric tons of different kinds of drugs have been seized by police in Guangdong since the beginning of the year, said a senior police official in the province.
Guangdong police have detained more than 11,000 suspected drug traffickers after cracking down on 8,500 drug cases over the first 10 months of the year, according to Liu Guoqiang, head of drug enforcement with Guangdong Provincial Department of Public Security.
"The detainees include 203 foreigners and 142 compatriots from Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macao special administrative regions," Liu told a news conference in this Guangdong provincial capital on Thursday.
"Guangdong police fought 274 drug cases involving in foreigners and residents from Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macao between January and October," he said.
"Meanwhile a number of drug gangs, cross-border drug trafficking channels and distribution centers have been busted, giving a heavy blow to drug crimes in the southern province, window of China's reform and opening-up," he said.
