Armed police carry out rescue operations after South China quake

NANNING -- Nearly 50 armed police members were dispatched to the cities of Jingxi and Chongzuo, South China's Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region for rescue after a 5.2-magnitude earthquake struck on Monday morning.

A team of 10 armed police members arrived at the epicenter, Hurun Town of Jingxi, to carry out rescue operations within an hour after the quake. They were tasked with search and rescue, checking damaged houses and clearing roads of fallen rocks, according to the Guangxi regional command center of the armed police.

Another 37 armed police members were dispatched to Huali village of Hurun town and Xialei town, Daxin county of Chongzuo for rescue operations.

The quake, which hit Jingxi at 9:18 am, has killed one person and slightly injured four others.

The epicenter was monitored at 22.89 degrees north latitude and 106.65 degrees east longitude. The quake struck at a depth of 10 km.
