A reading event focused on a newly released book titled Spirit of China: The Chinese Women's Volleyball Team We Chased after Those Years was held at Uni Elite shopping center on Nov 26.
Liu Yaru, the author, is a veteran sports photojournalist who has followed the Chinese women's volleyball team for over two decades with her camera. She attended the event with Feng Kun, former captain of the Chinese women's volleyball team, Liu Xiaotong, currently a member of the team, and Zhang Jianzhang, a renowned volleyball coach, to share these touching and breathtaking moments they witnessed and experienced on and off the court as well as their own understanding of the indomitable and courageous spirit of the Chinese women's volleyball team.
The book also shows precious pictures taken by Liu during these intense volleyball games and the interesting stories about the team coaches, team members and Liu herself.
Feng said she's glad to see that Liu has recorded all the unforgettable moments during her athletic career. And her understanding of the team's spirit is that one should never give up even when hitting the lowest point in life.
"With a strong sense of purpose, each member would always perform her own functions in the team and spare no effort for every game even if other people didn't rate us at all," Feng said.
Liu added that as a photojournalist who sees the volleyball team so often, she has also been inspired by the spirit of the team and tends to show strong courage when facing difficulties in her daily life.
