1 killed, 26 injured in college fire in southern Ukraine

KIEV - One person was killed and 26 injured in a fire which occurred in the building of the educational institution in Odesa, South of Ukraine, the State Emergency Service of Ukraine said on Wednesday.

"As of 19:40 as a result of a fire in the building of the Odessa college, 1 person was killed and 26 people were injured, 11 of them are teenagers and 7 employees of the State Emergency Service," the State Emergency Service of Ukraine said on Facebook.

The firefighters evacuated 40 people, many of whom were rushed to the hospital. The college teacher died from injuries in the hospital.

As reported by Ukrinform, the fire occurred on Wednesday at 10:12 a.m. local time on the third floor of the 6-story building of the Odessa College of Economics, Law and Hotel and Restaurant Business. About 400 people stayed in the building at the time of the accident.

The total area of the fire on the college building exceeded 3,000 square meters.
