Nine speakers shared topics about women and explored their individual and social development paths in the present and future social environment in China at TEDx Xujiahui 2019 in downtown Shanghai on Thursday.

Integrating their personal lives and career experiences and various ideas on women's lives and development from around the world, the speakers focused on women's rights, love and achieving a better life in their speeches to nearly 700 in the audience.

One of the speakers, Wang Wei, who has been providing corporate management training to senior managers at multinational companies for decades, encouraged women to be brave to face themselves and the world and live to their full potential.

Anny Liu, a veteran career woman in the stock industry, said that the current age provides women with a hard-won opportunity for career development and she said employers should shoulder stronger social responsibility to help women clear away barriers in climbing up career ladders.

Other speakers said there is still much to be improved regarding gender equality to completely eliminate gender discrimination and awaken society's new understanding of women's rights.

Ma Mengjia, curator of TEDx Xujiahui, a local, self-organized event bringing people together to share a TED-like experience, said she hoped more voices from China will be heard in the world through events like this.

"Throughout their lives, women are mothers, wives and daughters, as well as creators, explorers and dream chasers in modern society. We hope more Chinese women can be heard through various channels," Ma said.
