China will make a greater contribution to the world in the new era in upholding world peace and promoting common development, a senior Chinese official said on Monday.

Xu Lin, deputy head of the Publicity Department of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and minister of the State Council Information Office, made the remark when delivering a speech at an international symposium on China and the World in the New Era in Beijing.

Xu said, from the proposal of the Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence to the idea of building a community with a shared future for mankind, China has always placed its own development within the whole picture of human development.

According to Xu, China's contribution to world economic growth has remained nearly 30 percent in recent years and the joint building of the Belt and Road is an important public product that China offers to the world.

According to a World Bank report published in 2019, the BRI could lift 7.6 million people from extreme poverty.

China will continue to adhere to win-win cooperation for common development, firmly push forward economic globalization and actively participate in the international course of poverty alleviation, Xu said.

China will firmly support multilateralism and safeguard international justice and fairness, he added.

Xu also underlined that China will stay committed to the path of peaceful development, reiterating that China will never seek hegemony.

China's development aims to win respect and security and to let the people who went through suffering to live a good life, he said. It has never aimed at threatening, challenging or replacing any country in the world, he added.

China's practice has proved and will continue to prove that following a path of peaceful development will always be the unswerving strategic choice of China, Xu said.
