RABAT -- The Moroccan security seized 1.77 tons of cannabis in the southwestern city of Agadir on Tuesday.
According to a statement by the Moroccan police, the banned substance was concealed on board a refrigerated truck.
The authorities seized the truck loaded with the drugs and arrested the driver and his companion, aged 44 and 28 respectively, it added.
Despite efforts to crack down on cannabis cultivation during the past decade, Morocco remains one of the world's largest producers of the narcotic plant, according to the UN Office on Drugs and Crime.
The Moroccan security authorities seized more than 112 tons of cannabis and its derivatives as of Sept. 15 this year, official statistics showed.
