72 detained over online fraud in North China

TAIYUAN - Police in Taiyuan, North China's Shanxi province, have detained 72 suspects in an online fraud case involving over 30 million yuan ($4.29 million).
According to the police, the suspects used China's social media platform WeChat to recommend so-called quality stocks to the victims. They then provided a fake trading platform and lured the victims to invest.
On Dec 17, police caught the suspects in a raid, confiscating 289 mobile phones and 80 computers.
Further investigation into the case is underway.
