PRAGUE - A Million Moments for Democracy movement, a Czech political campaigning organization, announced on Tuesday a new wave of demonstrations at the end of February to demand the resignation of Czech Prime Minister Andrej Babis.
The new demonstrations will feature a protest-discussion every week in all of the country's 13 regional cities before finally concluding in Prague. The group said at a press conference that they are trying to spread political awareness not just on national issues, but also local ones.
"We will spread important information about the problems ...of Andrej Babis throughout the country. We will increase civic pressure on his resignation and give space for initiative and creativity to people in the regions," said Mikulas Minar, leader of the movement.
In 2019, the organization staged a series of protests including two in Prague that became the largest public rallies of the past 30 years, both drawing around a quarter of a million demonstrators.
Babis has been facing protests calling for his resignation since last year when a European Commission audit reportedly found him in a conflict of interest in his capacity as prime minister.
