About 72 percent said they traveled in a specific season for picturesque scenery, such as cherry blossom season or to see red leaves. While 65 percent preferred to take a road trip for beautiful views on a drive, 56 percent would travel by rail thanks to the convenient network.

The report showed that people paid more attention to sports, such as skiing, diving, cycling, hiking, gliding and surfing.

The filming locations of popular TV series and movies also caught the eye of Chinese tourists. For example, the costume drama The Untamed was filmed in Southwest China's Guizhou province, and the movie Better Days was shot in Chongqing municipality.
