A court in eastern China's Zhejiang province has sentenced a man to 10 years in prison for illegally providing intelligence overseas, a statement posted on its website said.
The Ningbo Intermediate People's Court announced the conviction and sentence for Gui Minhai, 55, on Monday. Gui was also deprived of his political rights for five years, the statement said.
Gui pleaded guilty, accepted the ruling and said he would not appeal to a higher court, it said.
The trial was initiated by prosecutors from the Ningbo People's Procuratorate in January, when they accused Gui of illegally providing intelligence overseas.
Gui's legitimate rights were fully protected during the judicial process, the court said.
Born in Ningbo, Gui acquired Swedish nationality in 1996. His application for the restoration of his Chinese nationality was approved in 2018, the statement said.
