A kidnapped Chinese was rescued successfully on Saturday, and the four kidnappers were shot dead in Nairobi, Kenya's capital, according to police.

Local media reported that four men identified themselves as officers from Kenya police force's Directorate of Criminal Investigations, or DCI, stormed a shop in Nairobi's China Center, a business hub where a lot of Chinese shops or Chinese stores are located. The kidnappers then called the Chinese's brother, demanding a ransom of $1 million.

The Kenya Chinese Chamber of Commerce reported the case to the police and the Chinese embassy in Nairobi also urged the police to rescue the victim.

On Saturday, detectives acting on an intelligence report raided a house in Sun Track Estate in Dagoreti, Nairobi, where four armed gunmen were illegally holding the Chinese man.

According to George Kinoti, the director of DCI, a fierce exchange of fire ensued, leading to the fatal shooting of all the four suspects. The Chinese man was rescued alive and was in good health. Among the four killed, Kinoti said, is an administration policeman.

"We are investigating to know who else he was working with,” he added.
