An exhibition, featuring a traditional Chinese shadow play theater and antique puppets at China Institute in New York, has received warm response from visitors of all ages.

"Shadow puppetry is a wonderful way to tell interesting tales from Chinese history and tradition," said China Institute Marketing Director Jeremy Willinger.

"it's only been open for about a month and a half, but we've had a really great response," he said.

The exhibition, a part of "The Art of Chinese New Year" program, will be held at China Institute until April 4.

Children can create their own puppet shows at the exhibition's theater and four weekend workshops are offered where participants can work with professional artists to create paper-cutting and shadow theater artworks of their own.

The Chinese shadow puppetry is a traditional Chinese folk art. In 2011, it was added to UNESCO's list of intangible cultural heritage of humanity.

"The Art of Chinese New Year" is a vibrant, interactive art experience where visitors of all ages can explore the Chinese New Year holiday and the traditional visual and performing arts related to it.
