An expert team of four doctors departed from Guangzhou, South China's Guangdong province, this morning to help treat people injured in the collapse of a hotel in Quanzhou, East China's Fujian province.

Dispatched by the National Health Commission, the doctors came from the departments of neurosurgery, traumatic orthopedics, chest surgery and critical care medicine at the First Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University.

The first batch of 14 medical experts was sent from Fuzhou and Xiamen in Fujian to Quanzhou on Saturday morning.

Forty-two of the 71 people trapped in the collapsed hotel had been rescued or recovered by 10:30 am on Sunday, including four dead, one in critical condition and four seriously injured.

The incident occurred at about 7:30 pm on Saturday when the Xinjia Hotel in the city's Licheng district, which was used for novel coronavirus quarantine, suddenly collapsed and was reduced to rubble within a few seconds.

Nine people escaped from the hotel on their own.
