MANILA - The Philippines reported 11 additional confirmed cases of the COVID-19 on Tuesday, bringing the total number in the country to 35.

The Department of Health (DOH) did not give details of the new cases. The announcement was posted on its official Facebook page.

There are now 35 confirmed COVID-19 cases in the Philippines, including one death. Some of the patients did not have travel history and may have contracted the deadly virus in the country.

Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte signed on Sunday the proclamation and declared a public health emergency as anxiety mounts over the increasing number of COVID-19 cases in the country.

Duterte ordered on Monday night the suspension of classes in the National Capital Region from March 10 to 14 as part of efforts to prevent the transmission of the COVID-19 in Metro Manila after the number of cases more than doubled on Monday.
