State Council has set up a special team to look into the hotel collapse which left 29 dead and 42 injured in Quanzhou, East China's Fujian province.

Fu Jianhua, vice-minister of Ministry of Emergency Management, will head the team.

The collapse happened on Sunday night and a total of 71 people were trapped in the building.

The city has collected and preserved evidence, and taken necessary measures to secure the property. It submitted its preliminary investigative results to the investigation team at a higher level, said Hong Ziqiang, executive vice-mayor of Quanzhou, at a news conference held on Wednesday in Quanzhou.

The building began construction in 2013 and was converted into a hotel with 66 rooms in 2018. Recently, it was used as a quarantine location that put people coming to Quanzhou from other areas under observation in case of novel coronavirus infection.
