Most respondents find it hard to manage their emotions: survey

BEIJING -- A recent survey by China Youth Daily showed that as much as 76.6 percent of the respondents find it hard to control their emotions, 14.1 percent of whom find it extremely hard.
Of the 3,006 respondents, 97.2 percent think emotion management important while getting along with others, especially in public, workplaces and with children or elders.
Yu Jian, who works in an internet firm in Beijing, said that those with unstable emotions would put tension on people around them, as they get anxious or lose their temper when facing things beyond their ability or not part of their plan.
When asked how to overcome their negative emotions, 65.5 percent of the respondents choose to calm themselves down, 45.9 percent tend to relieve their mood by doing things they like and others would wait for the emotions to disappear or look for some distractions.
Finding a way to vent our emotions is also important, according to Yu, who prefers pouring his feelings out via blogging or writing diary, feeling that there is no need to bring our negative feelings to people around us.
In order to maintain emotional stability, 69.3 percent of those surveyed suggest learning to think rationally. Other advice included keeping a positive mindset, being organized and not pushing yourself too hard.
