Sun Lijun, vice-minister of public security, was placed under investigation for suspected severe violations of discipline and law on Sunday, a week after another official at provincial level was probed for the same reason.

The Communist Party of China Central Commission for Discipline Inspection and the National Supervisory Commission, the country's top anti-graft body, announced the news via its official website on Sunday evening.

Sun, 51, a native from Qingdao, Shandong province, began to work in September 1988 and became the Party member in December 1997, according to the website.

On April 12, Zhang Zhinan, vice-governor of East China's Fujian province, was put under investigation for suspected serious violations of discipline and law. He became the first official at provincial or ministerial level to be investigated by the anti-corruption watchdog in 2020.

The 59-year-old native from Longyan, Fujian, joined the CPC in May 1979 and started to work in August 1981. He became the provincial vice-governor in 2008.
