The life expectancy at birth of household-registered residents in Shanghai in 2019 reached 83.66, making the city continuously on par with the world's most advanced countries and regions, according to a news release issued by the Shanghai Health Commission on Friday.

The figures for men and women were 81.27 and 86.14 respectively.

The release noted that the life expectancy of Shanghai residents has been increasing steadily in recent years. In 2015, the figure was 82.75.

The commission also released two other important health statistics: the infant mortality rate in the city is currently 3.06 per 1,000, while the maternal mortality rate is 3.51 per 100,000.
