Spanish flagship airline Iberia to resume some flights on July 1

MADRID - Spain's national airline Iberia reported on Thursday that it will resume flights for some short- and medium-haul routes on July 1 and consider expanding its destinations over the following months.

The airline has currently grounded virtually all national and international flights due to the coronavirus health emergency, but from July 1 it will fly domestic flights from Madrid to 26 airports in Spain.

Iberia will also reopen flights to 14 European destinations, which include Athens, Brussels, Dubrovnik, Geneva, Lisbon, London, Milan, Munich, Porto, Paris, Rome, Stockholm, Venice and Zurich, as well as Dakar.

Iberia will fly to a total of 40 destinations in July, with the number rising to 53 in August.

Spain currently has a 14-day quarantine in place for international arrivals (who can only fly into the airports of Madrid, Barcelona, Malaga, Palma Mallorca and Gran Canaria) due to the coronavirus pandemic, but the government has said the quarantine will be lifted at the start of July as the country tries to re-open its tourist industry to foreign visitors.
