PC shipments up over 11% in Q2: IDC

Traditional PC shipments rose over 11 percent year-on-year amid global economic slowdown in the second quarter of this year, according to global market consultancy IDC.
Global shipments of PCs, including desktops, notebooks, and workstations, increased 11.2 percent year-on-year, reaching a total of 72.3 million units in the second of quarter of 2020.
The strong demand driven by work-from-home as well as e-learning needs has surpassed previous expectations and has once again put the PC at the center of consumers' tech portfolio, said Jitesh Ubrani research manager for IDC's Mobile Device Trackers.
HP Inc with 25 percent of market share in PC shipments overtook Lenovo, accounting for 24.1 percent market share, for the top spot on the list of top 5 companies worldwide traditional PC shipments in market share in Q2.
Dell Technologies, Apple and Acer Group grabbed the third, fourth and fifth spots on the list with market shares of 16.6 percent, 7.7 percent and 6.7 percent, respectively.
