The sixth month in the Chinese lunar calendar, usually August, is the best time to eat a particular type of hairy crab famed for its tasty roe – earning it the nickname of liuyuehuang, or "sixth-month roe".
The liuyuehuang young crabs that live in Yangcheng Lake, Suzhou, Jiangsu province, usually weigh around 100 grams each and are known for their delicious taste. They have thin shells and tender meat if they are caught between June and August.
