Heavy rainfall affects 107,000 people in Sichuan

Heavy rain lashed the western part of the Sichuan Basin and the eastern part of the western Sichuan plateau in Southwest China's Sichuan province from 8 am on Tuesday to 10 am on Wednesday.
According to preliminary statistics, 107,000 people in Chengdu, Deyang, Mianyang, Guangyuan, Ya'an and Meishan cities were affected and more than 40,000 were relocated, Sichuan provincial flood control and drought relief headquarters said on Wednesday.
Eleven people died or went missing in Ya'an. In Mianyang, 27,000 people were affected and 7,000 of them were resettled. In Meishan, 21,000 people were affected and 15,000 of them were resettled, with 140 meters of river banks and 96 channels being damaged.
Officials at the headquarters have organized telecom operators such as China Mobile, China Telecom and China Unicom to send messages pertaining to flood prevention to mobile phone users in Chengdu, Deyang, Mianyang, Guangyuan, Leshan, Ya'an, Meishan and Aba Tibetan and Qiang autonomous prefecture.
The Sichuan Provincial Water Resources Department has sent leading officials to guide rescue and relief operations in Ya'an, Mianyang, Guangyuan and Aba, officials at headquarters said.
