Xinhua | Updated: 2020-08-28 10:32

KUNMING -- Southwest China's Yunnan province has been cleared of locust swarms that had invaded thousands of hectares, local authorities said on Thursday.

The border areas in the province that had been previously affected have not seen an influx of the insects for at least 18 consecutive days, according to the provincial forestry and grassland administration.

As of Wednesday, the locusts had invaded 10,680 hectares in the province. Local authorities have mobilized over 110,000 people to take preventive and control measures, according to the administration.

The areas affected by the swarms will continue to monitor the situation, and guard against swarm migration routes near the border areas.
