Is it necessary to install AEDs in all public spaces?

Editor's note: A 45-year-old man died in hospital after he fell unconscious in Huoying station on Line 13 of the Beijing subway on Sept 25. Two passengers took turns to perform CPR on him until the ambulance arrived. The incident has sparked heated discussion on whether public spaces should be equipped with automated external defibrillators to improve the chance of survival from cardiac arrest. Simply distributing AEDs is not enough. Incidents can happen everywhere, especially in public transit where people are riding daily in record numbers, so it is critical staff is prepared for any first aid emergencies that could happen. They should have basic first aid knowledge, and know how to act and respond in a critical situation.
