URUMQI -- Northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region has benefited from local power transmission projects, with over 50 billion kWh of transmitted power bringing 11 billion yuan (about $1.6 billion) of economic revenue to the region.

Since 2016, 53.46 billion kWh of power generated in Xinjiang has been transmitted to other parts of China, with the proceeds supporting the development of Xinjiang.

A total of 14 provincial areas have taken part in the projects this year, expanding from seven in 2016, according to the State Grid's Xinjiang branch.

Xinjiang is rich in energy resources, including wind and solar power, and boasts excessive power generation capacity. With power transmission channels built, the region can transmit and sell some of the unused power to other parts of China.

Since 2010, the region has transmitted over 330 billion kWh of electricity to 19 provinces, regions and cities in China through four channels.
