The "Explore Yantai Online through the Eyes of Foreigners: A Taste of Yantai" event was unveiled in the coastal city of Yantai, Shandong province, on Oct 27.

The event invites more than 10 foreign journalists and online celebrities from countries of the United States, the UK, Russia, India, Austria and Pakistan to get a closer look at Yantai's rich culture, coastal scenery and booming apple industry.

During the launch ceremony, Yu Yongxin, director of the Publicity Department of the CPC Yantai Municipal Committee, introduced the city's natural landscape, culture and economic achievements since its reform and opening-up.

Yu also highlighted the vital role that the Yantai global communication platform has played in promoting Yantai worldwide, especially during the current global pandemic.

The Yantai global communication platform was jointly created by the Yantai municipal publicity department and the China Daily Website.

Launched in June 2019, the platform, which consists of the "Wonderland Yantai" English-language website and the "Yantai China" overseas social network page, aims to showcase the coastal city for readers from home and abroad.

"Yantai is a beautiful coastal city with a unique charm," Yang Chunya, director of the Media Development Center of China Daily, said at the ceremony.

She expressed the hope that the event will help expats learn about the history of Yantai through its apples, wine, scenery, food and culture.

"I also hope that this event gives people a new perspective on Yantai and its unique culture and compels people from around the world to come visit the city," she added.

During the two-day event, expats will visit a series of well-known attractions in Yantai, including the Changyu Wine Culture Museum, the Yantai Mountain Scenic Area, and an apple planting center.

The event was held on online and offline channels. China Daily will help further expand the activity worldwide via its media platforms.
