Shanghai will encourage retired athletes to work as physical education teachers or coaches in schools, according to an outline containing the key tasks related to sports in 2021. The outline was released by the Shanghai Administration on Sports on Jan 19.
In addition, the administration will enhance the sports literacy level of the youth, improve the efficiency of sports reserve talents training and promote the construction of community fitness centers, urban sports centers and public fitness stations.
The number of fitness venues and facilities in the city will be increased in 2021, including 80 newly built and rebuilt public fitness trails, 600 public fitness parks, and 80 multi-functional courts, according to the administration.
Other tasks include integrating the competition and training of all sports teams so as to increase the number of Shanghai athletes representing the nation at the Tokyo Olympic Games, as well as accelerating the construction of sporting venues for winter sports.
The city will also promote the innovation and upgrading of the sports industry, including expanding the Shanghai Marathon and Shanghai Super Cup, and constructing major sporting venues such as the Xujiahui Sports Park, the Shanghai Cycling Venue, and the International Equestrian Center.
