A New Journey For A New Era: An Action Plan of Education For International Understanding 2020, a guide document for practitioners of international education, was released in Beijing on Wednesday.

The 54-page report was co-released by Beijing Royal Charity Foundation, the Center For China & Globalization(CCG), and the Institute of International Education South-South Cooperation.

The report discusses who-what-how-to-teach questions of the education for international understanding in the post-epidemic era, said Pan Jun, Chairperson of Beijing Royal Charity Foundation.

"When the information asymmetry deepens the misunderstanding of people, who have already increased social distance due to the corona virus, the post-epidemic era calls for the education for international understanding," said Pan.

Marble Lu Miao, secretary-general of CCG, echoed Pan's opinion by saying that the release of the report is timely and important, as the world is facing great challenges of geopolitical tensions and an increasing amount of mistrust.

The similar point of view was shared by Gao Fei, vice-president of China Foreign Affairs University. "A better international understanding can build trust, and can further lead to cooperation," Gao said.

Faced with the challenges of the economic globalization, where cross-cultural dialogue has an important place, education is booming increasingly globalized.

Ever since the concept of Education for International Understanding was proposed by UNESCO in 1974, this dialogue has been highlighted by the government.

The Ministry of Education of China has repeatedly pointed out that the development of core competencies for Chinese students is required to be in line with the world education reform, and strengthens the international competitiveness of China's education.

"From a Chinese perspective, international understanding education needs China's solutions", said Pan Jun. Pan held the development of the education of international understanding in China is a strategic task for China to assume the responsibility of a major country, and it is an inevitable requirement for the cultivation of well-rounded talents.

Pan suggested China's young generation "fully prepared" by enhancing their cross-cultural communication skills, as well as equipping their minds with Chinese wisdom, so that they can have a deep understanding of China's roles and responsibilities, and better inherit China's future.
