Fewer traffic accidents during China's May Day holiday

BEIJING - Road traffic safety in China was stable during the five-day May Day holiday, with the number of traffic accidents decreasing by 65.3 percent from a year ago, said the Ministry of Public Security on Friday.

During the holiday that started on May 1, the traffic flow of the main roads increased greatly, the ministry said at a press briefing.

The number of deaths due to traffic accidents decreased by 49.5 percent year on year, it said.

No severe congestions or major road accidents occurred during the holiday, it added.
