Canadian scientist Jeremy Murray has worked on plants throughout his entire career, and the opportunity to do science attracted him to work in Shanghai in 2018.
He was recently featured in the "Shanghai Through Our Eyes" series in which he spoke about his experience in the city.
In his eyes, Shanghai is a city that keeps changing, and is a place where he can do the science he wants to do.
Murray now runs a lab in the Center for Excellence in Molecular Plant Sciences of Chinese Academy of Science, where several important discoveries have been made, including the discovery of the chloride transporter in plants.
"This is one of the leading research institutes in the world for plant biology… Today, China is one of the world leaders in scientific research and my colleagues have been nothing but supportive," said Murray about the reason that he came to work in Shanghai.
"Shanghai is very different than everywhere I've lived," he added. "I look out from my window, and there are new buildings here and there from month to month. It always continually develops."
