Shanghai adds new art museum to list of landmarks
A new art museum opened on Tuesday in Shanghai, providing the city with yet another cultural landmark.
Located next to the iconic Oriental Pearl Tower in the financial hub of Lujiazui, the Museum of Art Pudong (MAP) boasts 13 exhibition halls with a total available exhibition area of over 10,000 square meters.
The museum was designed by French architect and Pritzker Architecture Prize winner Jean Nouvel, with the Shanghai Lujiazui Development (Group) Company Ltd. responsible for its construction and operation.
At the opening ceremony, the company's general manager Xu Erjin said the museum will be developed into a public art gallery that integrates the functions of art education, tourism, leisure and academics.
It will open to the public from Thursday, with a series of art exhibitions scheduled.
