China's video cloud market value reached $3.81 billion in the second half of 2020, up 45.7 percent year-on-year, according to a recent IDC report on China's video market released July 21.

Among niche markets, the market for video cloud application solutions was the brightest, up more than 75 percent in terms of scale in the second half of 2020 to reach $700 million. Top five service providers were still in leading positions, taking 63.4 percent of market share.

In general, online audio and video interactive entertainment, livestreaming for selling goods on e-commerce platforms and online education are still the three major application scenarios fueling the application solutions market in the second half of 2020.

As per the report, the video cloud infrastructure market in China reached 3.11 billion in H2. The growth in the video cloud infrastructure market was faster than that of video CDN market, which was larger in scale but might be surpassed in the short term.

Top cloud service providers, namely Ali Cloud, Tencent Cloud, Kingsoft Cloud, Huawei Cloud and Baidu Cloud, accounted for 76.5 percent of the video cloud infrastructure market share.

Wei Yunfeng, IDC China's industry cloud service research manager, said in 2020 strict epidemic restrictions brought the second growth surge in China's video cloud market in five years. However, the next boom is already in the works. Existing video applications are becoming more HD, interactive and immersive.

There is also the evolution of non-video scenes into video. These two major drivers will continue to drive the rapid growth of the video cloud market, potentially creating a new era of "hypervideo".
