Zhou Jiangyong, the Party secretary of Hangzhou, capital of Zhejiang province, is being investigated for serious violations of Party discipline and national laws, the country's top anti-graft watchdogs said on Saturday.
Zhou, 54, also a member of the Standing Committee of the Zhejiang Provincial Committee of the Communist Party of China, is under investigation by the CPC's Central Commission for Discipline Inspection and the National Supervisory Commission.
Zhou started working in 1985 and spent all his political career in the province, including positions in charge of development zones in the cities of Ningbo and Zhoushan. He became Hangzhou's Party chief in May 2018.
The watchdogs did not reveal further details about the investigation, but the standing committee convened a meeting on Saturday night for a briefing on the case.
The meeting, hosted by Yuan Jiajun, Zhejiang's provincial Party chief, expressed its strong support for the watchdogs' actions. The meeting said the ongoing investigation showed that anti-graft efforts are being made everywhere, and the Party has zero tolerance for such violations.
The standing committee said it resolutely supported the decision of the CPC Central Committee to put Zhou under investigation and called on every Party member in Zhejiang to learn a lesson from the case.
