Liberian security forces to monitor border with Guinea

Liberia's national security forces have been mandated to keep surveillance through patrols at the border with Guinea, following a military coup in the west African country.

President George Weah gave the mandate during a national security meeting held on Monday.

A statement from the Liberian presidency added that the measures are intended to protect the country's territorial integrity and to examine the security and political ramifications that military and political crises could have on Liberia.

Weah also urged the country's security to be ready to address any possible border influx of Guinean citizens who might want to seek refuge in the country.

The meeting follows the apparent coup d'état in the West African country on Sunday. President George Weah has also expressed deep concern over the ongoing political situation, and called for the rule of law to be upheld.
