The road transportation network in North China's Shanxi province has largely been restored as of Monday, after torrential rains hit the province last week, news.cctv.com reported on Thursday.

Rains and rain-induced disasters have damaged 6,021.36 kilometers of roads and impacted five highway construction projects. Rural passenger bus services in certain regions had to suspend, leading to some travel difficulties for locals.

Through the continuous efforts by transportation departments across the province, obstructions on 30 sections of highways, 19 sections of provincial and national arterial roads, and 2,800 sections of rural roads had been cleared by Monday.

Flood prevention, urgent repairs, as well as post-disaster restoration of roads have been timely initiated to ensure smooth traffic based on early warnings provided by meteorological departments, said the report.

A total of 68,917 emergency response personnel and 13,453 pieces of equipment and machinery have been mobilized.

Shanxi's provincial transportation department has dispatched supervision teams to guide cities in screening and handling potential hazards, safeguarding energy transportation, and restoring roads to full capacity as soon as possible to meet people's traveling needs.
