High-level officials and experts in Hong Kong and Guangdong province on Friday shared their insights on how the two regions can increase their cooperation via the Nansha district of Guangzhou.

Leung Chun-ying, vice-chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, told a high-level webinar that Nansha is a vital platform for furthering Guangdong-Hong Kong collaboration, given the district's solid and diversified industry base, high-end manufacturing, and favorable talent policies.

Leung said he hopes the district will provide new directions and opportunities for Hong Kong's closer integration into national development.

Hong Kong Financial Secretary Paul Chan Mo-po said that Hong Kong and Nansha have plenty of space for collaboration in terms of life-health and logistics, which will fuel Hong Kong's inno-tech development and consolidate its role as an international aviation center.

Lu Yixian, Party secretary of Nansha district, said Nansha and Hong Kong have deep collaboration in trade investment, professional services, technology development and youth entrepreneurial projects.

Nansha will grasp all opportunities arising from the collaboration ties to create a new chapter of excellence, he said.

During the webinar, various business leaders, scholars and experts also discussed Nansha's current development, future opportunities, and industrial integration between Guangdong and Hong Kong.

The webinar was co-organized by Hong Kong Coalition, Our Hong Kong Foundation, and the Guangdong-Hong Kong cooperation advisory committee in Nansha.

Established in 2012, Nansha is the nation's six State-level new zone and the first one in southern China. It is strategically positioned to strengthen cooperation among Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao.

The 60-square-kilometer area in the southernmost part of Guangzhou mainly focuses on shipping logistics, finance, international trade and high-end manufacturing industries.
